Studio Lighting

This is my studio set up. I have a couple of flash heads which I put in the dining room and I stick a curve of white card to the chairs to act as a backdrop. The photos are taken with my trusty Nikon DSLR.
On the shelf in the background you can see an original prototype of the East/West model.
My true love has asked rather icily if we can use ‘the studio table’ for our dinner. Time to clear up.

Ig Nobel

I'm delighted and honoured to have been asked to speak at the forthcoming Ig Nobel UK tour. I'll be at the Newcastle Centre for Life on Friday 14th March and the session starts at 6pm.
I'll be doing a short talk provisionally on the limitations of cardboard engineering.
See you there!

Heart Flower

I've just about finished this Paper Sculpture in time for St Valentine's day. My one true love has declared it to be "Beautiful" so I'm as happy as can be!
I have to check it over for mistakes but should have it up on the website to download shortly. A modest fee in exchange for a file of parts and illustrated instructions.
I've used the 'grain' of the paper to give the stalks strength. The stalks are made from two pieces glued together. One face is printed vertically, the other horizontally, between them they provide both strength and flexibility. Perfect.

Flexi-cross

My Dad sent me a link to this YouTube clip. The cross-thing is intriguing. The kind of thing I wish I'd thought of myself. I've knocked up a quick version of it so that I could try it out first hand. I've put a copy of the pdf file on the website. Feel free to download it and try it for your self.
